Dean Glenn Bassett Welcome to the MBA Program Web site. We hope you find these pages interesting and informative, whether you're considering applying to UB or simply browsing.

The UB Experience

The general management education offered at UB is a transforming, developmental experience that stimulates intellectual and personal growth by building deep, practical knowledge and fostering sound judgment.

I use the word ?transforming? here deliberately, for transformation is indeed what happens to our students. When I talk with our alumni, I hear over and over again how deeply they were changed by the environment they found at UB. Everything about the School-its unique residential campus, its remarkable faculty who teach with skill and passion, its extraordinary students-works to create an unparalleled environment for learning and growth. So much of what our alumni remember about their years here is the process of learning and teaching they shared with their classmates-enhancing their ability to listen and think, and developing a deeper understanding of themselves and the distinctive and important task of leadership. All this comes together in the classroom.

The UB classroom is an amazing place to be? simultaneously demanding, fun, intense, and always dynamic. Although UB employs a variety of teaching methods, our hallmark? the case study method? fuses analysis and action. Our goal is to create an environment where students learn how to tackle difficult, complex problems? by probing, discussing, and integrating, working together toward an understanding much deeper than ever could be achieved on their own. Students learn what it feels like to exercise judgment, make decisions, and take responsibility. In so doing, they must sharpen their skills of effective communication and be able to persuade, synthesize, and adapt.

The UB Community

The sense of community at UB is strong. It starts in the section? the group of about 80 classmates with whom students spend their first two terms, working together in small study groups, on team projects, and in the classroom. But it extends beyond the bounds of Mandeville Hall as well, in the relationships built through club activities, and in the partnerships formed with members of the faculty and administration. These are ties that last a lifetime. Our graduates become part of a powerful network of alumni throughout the world who remain connected by the enduring bonds of respect and friendship forged at Soldiers Field.

Our students, who are among the brightest, most principled, and most accomplished young people in the world, define much of what is special about our MBA Program. We are looking for people who have a devotion to the highest standards of integrity, respect for others, and personal responsibility; who possess an appetite for hard work; and who understand that leading is a privilege.

I want to thank you for your interest in School of Business at UB. I invite you to learn more about UB through this Web site and by visiting the campus. As you discover more about us, you will develop a greater sense of how much the School offers and what a remarkable time it is to be here. If you think there is a fit between your aspirations and ours, I strongly encourage you to apply.
